Re: Rambo &Myrtle update

Max is the missing cockatiel. He is still out there. I can hear him early in the morning. I am not giving up on him yet. The only way I knew that it was Max is that Jackie was staying with Tweet and Retweet her 2 year old babies.

Myrtle and Rambo had a rough trip because their cages rattled. Myrtle was also upset because she was closed in her original cage with the door closed for the first time in 4 years. We got here before dawn so I put them in a room and opened their doors. The next day they did the new bird thing and just sat on top of the cages.
Myrtle was the first one out because she flies to me but would go back if I left her cage area. Rambo did not come out all day but at bedtime he did not want to be in that room. He flew out to me about 4 times before I could settle him down. (He flies about 6 inches off the floor.) The next night there was no putting him back so I slept in my recliner with him on me. I even covered him with the quilt. At about 2 am I flipped the quilt over on him and went to bed. The next morning he was still under the quilt with just his beak sticking out. I guess he was checking to see if I would be there for him. He has not done it since.

My blind dog, Bruce, has had some trouble. There are 4 steps between the living room and dining room. Of course he fell down. I put a throw rug at the top and he learned that it meant the steps were there. The steps going from the deck to the yard are not the same as the ones in NC. I have had to teach him to go down sideways. He gets lost in the yard. I touched him and walked right beside him for him to go back to the steps. My little girls must have been watching. I have seen them do it. He found the sliding glass door but could not find the opening. I watch Jasmine touch sides with him and walk slow to the door opening and brought him in. He is doing better.

The parrots will get used to their new home and Bruce will learn his way around in no time at all, Liz. I had to put my little old Chihuahua girl to sleep and was so lost without her that I adopted another old one. Chichi is a 14 year old, almost completely blind (she might see bulk and movement right in front of her eyes but little else, according to my vet) Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix whose owner could no longer keep (had to go back to living with her mother after divorce and the old lady did not want a dog that pees everywhere all the time) and, although it took her a couple of days, you should see her now going up and down the steps and all around the backyard all on her own! She even runs in circles - something she had stopped doing years ago, according to her old owner

This house is all laminant floors so I put a throw rug at the top of the stairs. Bruce has learned to stop at the throw rug and whimper until I get him.
Rambo has been flying about 6 inches off the ground. Sometimes he has to put a foot down to boost himself back up but I can see how happy he is with it. They still only have their little travel cages so I propped Rambo's up so he can see out a window. He loves to yell at the cars and people going by. Myrtle is everywhere and into everything. I don't have my dog door yet so my sliding door is open about a foot. To keep her from flying out by accident I put a shower curtain over the door. I stuck her shower perch to the glass so she can look out.

I am 65 years old and was declared disabled back in 1994. I am too old for this sh.t. Myrtle who has always loved my son Chuck is attacking him as well as the dogs and cats. Rambo is hiding under Aunt Betty's bed. Chuck put food and water under there for him and said Rambo went after the water saying mmmmmm and being nice, which he usually is not.
I have to leave all the work up to my daughter who is still working and the truck will be here to finish the move on the 30th.
So I am facing another 10.5 of hard driving to get back to FL before someone retaliates.

It seems no matter where I am I have to be in the other state.

Probably should not ask, but why can't your children pack everything up and get it loaded on the truck while you care for the birds?

I typed a long reply and spilled my guts to you. It disappeared thanks to my technology impairment. Even though you did not get it I feel better for talking to you.

Thank you for being my friend. You are important to me.

I was called back to FL. It seems no matter where I am I need to be in the other place.
Myrtle went nuts even attacking Chuck. Rambo, dogs and cats did not have a chance.

I got in at 11:30 pm yesterday. Everything woke up and came running. Chuck was waiting to help me get stuff into the house. Myrtle flew to him like he was her best buddy and ignored me. She was telling me she was mad at me and she had Chuck. He could not believe what she did after being so mean while I was gone.

Today things are back to normal. Under my feet and over my head I am surrounded.

When I go back I will have to take Myrtle with me.

Liz, I have been thinking about Max. If he is still hanging out nearby you could try making a recording of your cockatiel, especially if you can get some of them to do some contact calls and getting one of those live animal traps and put food in the trap and play the recording on top of it or next to it. I don't know if it would work but it is an idea.

He was answering the contact calls of mine and my neighbors cockatiels. Even though I have the AC on the cockatiel window is open. I have not heard him since I have been back this time. My cockatiels are calling to the neighbor's.
