I am so sad. I found Lola with her neck twisted and her head underneath her. Her body was cold and stiff but Phoenix and Gimpy stayed with her until I found her.
Lola came to me from a woman with cancer who wanted to rehome her pets and not leave it to another after she was gone. She was not taken care of properly and was never touched but she was loved by her human. Lola is the first one to actually come out of the flock to tell me tweet secrets.
I had a morning appointment yesterday and did not have time to spend with my cockatiels. I wish I could rewind and have a last tweet session with her. Of all the cockatiels she was the first one to tell tweet secrets and was teaching the others that it was fun. I am sure that her friend Jackie is really missing her. (Jackie came in a family of four then lost her mate and a son since being with me).
It is saddening to go to the flock and not have Lola come to me.

Oh, Liz, I am soooo sorry for your loss! Even when we have a number of them, the loss of one leaves a big hole in our lives, doesn't it?

I don't know how old she was but I know she was never hand touched. She tried so hard to overcome her fear that she left footprints on my heart.
It seems that with so many the others would help with the feelings of loss but each one is special to me. She went beyond telling tweeter secrets and with Jackie as back up had started coming and touching me.
I cannot figure out what happened except that something must have scared her enough to fly into the corner and break her neck. Of course I blame myself for not spending more time with them and calming their fears.
I put her little body under an oak tree and marked it with a stone with her name on it. Her body is there but she is still with me in my memories.

They always look as if the neck is broken when they are dead but, normally, they don't break their neck with they crash, they die from head trauma, instead.

I cannot even imagine what she did that put her in the corner of a little cage. She was in Gimpy's cage.

With so many of my rescues looking about the same, I lost Tommy somewhere in the flock. I have not had time to sit down and figure them out again. I wish I had food coloring when Tommy stepped forward yesterday and started throwing kisses to pull me in for a kiss. He is the only one who will still step up. Shadow has reverted to being only in the flock.

I was depressed and bored yesterday so I turned on the radio. When I sing Myrtle mumbles or hums to keep up with me.
It has been more than a year since I took the time to sing and dance with Myrtle. She was never good at dancing.
I was trying to get her to dance yesterday but she was not in the mood. Then I looked past her and saw Rambo doing the moon walk. I have had him years and did not know that he liked to dance. I laughed so hard that Myrtle go jealous and flew over and stopped him.

Gimpy has become almost invisible in the flock. Now that he can fly he is joining them more often and landing on small things to sit. He will also land on the BIG perches to be with the others. I have to search to find him now.
