Strange Alexandrine Behavior!

Postby DLC » Thu May 05, 2011 6:39 pm

My wife and I have recently adopted a 10 year old Alexandrine named Suzy. We don't know too much about her. Her previous owner died and family members brought her to a shelter, from whence she went to our local parrot organization and then to us.

Suzy has a very odd behavior with me that I suspect might be related to mating, though I really have no idea. I'm wondering if anyone has a clear interpretation of what it is.

You might think it looks aggressive, but the jerky movement will often be followed by an attempt to sweetly groom my ear.

It looks like a regurgitation motion to me. My GCC does something similiar for me when he's feeling particularly loved. Not a big deal, just something birds do.

I've seen her regurgitate before, and it has looked different from this. Though it could be that she has a couple ways of doing it.

My GCC has never actually regurgitated, but he makes those motions daily. I've just equated it with making the motions because he's in a good mood and enjoying himself.
