I agree. They are healthier because they get more exercise. They are happier because they can do what they were born to do.

The time Myrtle got sucked off my shoulder by the wind, if she had not been such a proficient flyer I would have lost her. The wind blew her back and forth all over my front yard and she kept righting herself. She managed to grab the top twig of my neighbors tree. If she was not flighted she would not have the muscle to fight the wind and she would land in another neighborhood. As it was she held onto her twig and yelled Ma until help came.

My cockatoo does the exact same thing, a very muted alarm call. We had to share a bedroom for about a year in my old apartment and I could easily tell if he was up or not because I could hear his nails on the sandy perch he sleeps on. Any time he made that strange call he would stop without moving, unless I woke him up in which case I could hear him grab a snack, have a poop, and mosey on back to his sleeping perch. I'm sure he is having a dream of some sort. It also seemed to happen after he had had a very stimulating day (like going for a hike or some type of outing).

Lilly would always rip the blanket off of her cage, than scream to complain that it fell.

It's five hours away, but on occasion I can. Maybe as a birthday present...
