i believe michael has a blog on potty training on here...read that first...use a small towel over you should or buy an apron for this purpose...i use what i call my bird shirt when handling the little guys...my african grey is partly potty trained and progressing well in her training...expect to get pooped on occasionally, it's harmless....lol...good luck and i hope this helps

Don't get a parrot if you absolutely cannot stand the thought of getting pooped on. The potty training only reduces how much you get pooped on but it still happens.

When you're a serious long time parrot owner, it doesn't bother you. Sometimes when I have Truman on a non-parrot perch such as on my chair or my hand and see that he's about to let one loose, I'll actually throw my hand in to catch it. Washing my hands is a heck of a lot easier than the carpet or wherever else it would have ended up.

I very rarely get pooped on anymore and I haven't even tried very hard to potty train the birds, it just kind of happened. I agree if you really get freaked out by being pooped on, birds may not be your thing, but I get pooped on, and my stuff gets pooped on, far LESS than I imagined before I actually had my own birds. Plus bird poop is fairly benign as poop goes. It's not particularly smelly and it's quite easy to clean up.

Shit happens.

I keep paper towel in my room at all times.

It's really not that bad, it doesn't stink or anything.

I can't remember the last time I got pooped on. If one of my birds is hanging out with me I always put the back on their cage or somewhere to poop every 15 - 20 minutes. After they poop then I go pick them up again.

I have one parakeet. Whenever I take him out of the cage he gets excited I guess and poops. If this is the case for your hold him over a paper towel or soemthing. After he poops you can put him on your shoulder and he won't poop. I have also seen bird diapers, so you don't get poop on you. :D hope I helped!

That was the best line "shit happens". If you can't deal with the poopers you really don't want a pet.

Cleaning is out weighed by love.
