Regrow Feathers?

Postby parrotlover » Thu Jul 07, 2011 5:15 pm

OK well the pet store already has the parakeets :budgie: wings already clipped; and so I was wondering if the feathers would grow back out to where it can fly perfectly fine before they where clipped?

That I don't know.

Rambo came to me with his wings trimed and they never grew back. He looks like a cargo plane with his wings so much smaller in proportion to his body. He does not fly and can't get altitude so all he can do is controlled crashes off the top of his cage. Most of the time he just climbs down but he has been watching Myrtle. Rambo is as pedestrian.

Myrtle came to me with her wings clipped and only did controlled crashes. Now her flight feathers are growing back. She can get altitude and fly but not very far yet. She was a year old when I got her and kept in a little cage all her life.

Liz, how long have you have them? How long did it take for Myrtle's flight feathers to start growing back in? How long has she been able to fly? I have a young Meyer's that was clipped by the previous owner and am wondering how long it may take for his feathers to grow.

I have had Myrtle for a few months. She is stragley with a few feathers here and there but she can use them. I hope they all grow back. She looks a little rough.

She practiced flying as soon as she knew she was safe out of her cage. Her longer flights are basically to find me and climb up my pants leg to my shoulder. She likes hitch hiking. She will also fly to things that she wants to tare up.

My birds use their cages to keep their food in. Their doors are never closed unless there are kids in the house or in Rambo's case being punished.

All of Myrtles may grow back. Some just might be slower.
