This one also chirps a little and also hisses at me. Thanks your replies, people, I'm off to bed and I'll keep you informed.

Close the window. It can't find it's way home but could be tempted to follow a wild bird which will also get it into trouble.

Thanks, Liz. I already closed the window the moment I realized the bird likes to sit there. Talk to you tomorrow. :)

if it matters, if I had to hazard a guess as to sex, I'd say your found cockatiel is a male: bright cheek patches, no spotting on wings, doesn't look like there's any bars on the underside of the tail feathers. DNA testing is your only sure way of knowing, though.

Poor baby, he does look a little tattered. Even if you're not interested in keeping him, thank you for rescuing him. He's got a better chance now.

Flytrap is already in love with that little bird. If he does not find the owner I am sure he will keep him. Since he doesn't know anything about birds we will have to help.

The wings looked tattered but the head, belly and legs look alright. Flytrap says he tweets & hisses which is a good sign that his brain wasn't injurd.

Have you offered seeds or spray millet to the bird?

If you don't already have it, I would buy spray millet from the petstore, usually VERY cheap. Like 50 cents a stalk. This is like catnip to cats, bacon to humans. He needs to eat, and I think spray millet is the best choice here.

In my area pet stores are hard to get to but Walmart also carries it and 3-D seed. I don't think they have the cockatiel crumbles.

The bird woke me up in the morning with loud chirping. Haven't seen it eat anything yet. I'll try going to the pet store today. I think the soonest time I can get it to a vet is Sunday.

First of all, I think you are very good for taking this cockatiel home. It would have been killed but you saved it.

Try to find a seed mix for cockatiels in the local pet shop. If you find no owner, I recommend you buy it a medium sized cage for it. Good luck.

Tiels eat any fruit or veggie that they can tear into with those little sharp beaks. Apple wedge, plumb, peach, grapes and etc. I have to make the wedge thin so they can get hold of it. I have to break the skin on the juicy fruits with thick skins.

Broccoli, celery (especially the leaves), romaine lettuce (not iceburg), anything green that they can bite. They also eat canned and frozen fruit and veggies. You can share what you are eating if you don't put salt on his share. Mine don't eat carrots unless they are cut in tiny chunks.

You can offer any cereal, uncooked oatmeal, uncooked barley and etc. Rice and pasta have to be cooked first.

Basically if he has bird crumbles, seed and water you can just share what you are eating. Mine share my toast and eggs at breakfast. They get romaine and tomatoe from my lunch sandwitch. I share a little bit of everything from supper except meat.

He needs some bird safe wood to chew on for his beak (he won't swollow it - just tear it up). They love to tear things up. Mine like cardboard egg cartons, cereal boxes, plastic lids and such.
