How long does it usually take to bond to family

Postby animal_lover » Thu Sep 15, 2011 9:58 am

Hello everyone. We just got our little one (Meyer's) last week. He is approx 12 weeks old. The four of us (me,husband and 2 kids ages 13 and 10and 1/2) are all handling him pretty equally. He is pretty good at stepping up but can be nippy at times and has growled at us all at one time or another. Just wondering how long it usually takes for them to bond to the flock? He generally seems to like us and enjoy his time out of cage. He is pretty quiet when we are in the room with him. He does seem to call his flock (not loudly) when we are not in the room. We want a social bird that everybody will be able to handle. :meyers:

Really, it depends on the bird. Some take days, some take weeks, some even take months. In a rescue's case, it could even take years but your bird is still young, so I'd say much quicker. Just give him more time and continue socializing him to various people and envrionments.

He does call you.

He is used to being with other birds and all he has now is you.

Calling you means the bonding is working.
