A mini Pig & my flock

Postby Kaicho » Sun Oct 02, 2011 10:52 pm

So, I purchased a miniature painted pig, known commonly as a Juliani Pig. They are very small and tend to stay small throughout their lives. They are not the Micro-Mini style potbellied pigs, because they are their own specific breed. Anyhow, I've been researching for a while and couldn't find anything online about whether or not pigs could give things to parrots etc.

My pig, Lucy Lu a red-haired female who weighs 3lbs and is 7inches height, is from a reputable breeder who is also a vet tech. Lucy has all her shots and is healthy as could be, with no genetic diseases etc. indicated by her paperwork.

I haven't introduced them yet, as the pig will probably not live in the bird room.... the blue and gold macaw seems to enjoy teasing my sun conure, so the two of them make a lot of random racket at odd points during the day.... this would undoubtedly panic the little pig in a new environment, and a pig squeeling/screaming is louder than any bird I've ever heard.

I, more than likely, will never have them playing together because I don't believe in letting animals like that interact... so as to avoid accidents etc. When the birds are out, the pig is in her great-dane-sized crate/pen-area; and vice-versa.

Does anyone else know of any concerns?

Congratulations!! I've always wanted a Juliani pig. The only thing that makes the whole 'mini-pig' business very fishy is the fact that every breeder seems to advocate "special" mini-pig food that is supposed to keep the piglets small... What did your breeder say?

Very cute! I have always wanted a piggy(not even mini) Don't forget how train able they are and just like puppies training should start right away. Especially leash training because these guys can be stubborn lol

That is one of the cutest things I have ever seen! I've always been fond of pigs (large and small) but it just doesn't make sense for me to have one unfortunately. Congrats on your new baby!
