Hi All, It has taken me this long to post this as I have been very upset (can you tell???) Saturday, 2 weeks ago, my dog pushed the door open with his snout and my tiel flew out the door. I was less than a meter away but it happened so fast. The door was on the side of the house, Rory flew over the roof to the other side, by the time we (my son and I) got there he was gone. We have driven, walked, called, posted flyers, Parrotalert, etc but there has been no sign of him. We also had really bad weather for the next 5 days. Hubby, son and self are devasted. Rory was such a character and is sadly missed. I cannot bring myself to get another tiel, cos he wont be Rory. We will get another bird one day, its so sad seeing that empty cage and knowing this could have been avoided, my son wants to call it Rory (I said no) I had been doing indoor recall with Rory and it worked probably 90% of the time, but when it really counted, Rory would not come back.
Please dont criticise, I have done enough of that over the last 2 weeks to last a life time. Many tears have been shed over this, we are only now coming to terms with what happened. Thanks for listening. Please take every precaution when having your birdies out. I thought I did, never thought this would happen to me, I am so paranoid about when my birds are out, practised recall, doors closed AND locked and just one time it wasnt, my beloved Rory is gone.
