I haven't done much research on Cape Parrots but judging from Michael's videos, Truman is quite the character. He is so charming! :) Not to mention, Cape Parrots are so cute. They have the sweetest looks on their faces. :) The only problem being price, good golly miss molly are they expensive. It would take me forever to save up $1800!

Yeah they're pretty expensive. In Canada, they go for over 2K.

But I guess that's only a small price compared to what Hyacinth Macaws go for. I saw some selling for $10,000. Talk about pricey!

I saw on Craiglist a few months back that someone had a clutch of Capes for sale $200 each. I guessed they were like my tiels. When I slip up and they have babies I rehome them. That might have happened.

Expand your search. If you are not sure what you really want - volunteer at a rescue. There might even be one there that is waiting for you.

I dono, there's lots of scams going on now a days on every website imaginable offering birds for a "cheap" deal, it's kind of frightening!

Capes around here from my breeder that I hope to get my Ruppell's parrot this summer sells her "capes" for roughly 2.5k, if I save enough by then I will consider the cape, especially since the housing is not a problem! I already have the cage!! I just keep buying cages because I get a discount it's insane! I have had so many!

As for Birdtricks, I totally agree, I am upset that their training techniques come off as infomercials rather than actual helpful videos which at the end of the day is really just positive reinforcement that is taught in psych 101 basic cognitive psychology that probably has been reinforced on humans via commercials wayy back! So it's all the same things, but to get into the more advanced stuff, I find watching Dave and his wife's blogs much more helpful so I agree! no need to buy their stuff, just watch the free things!

Now, I feel like if you enjoy the personalities of mini macaws, perhaps you can consider a small conure. Well there's various mutations of GCC, or even something a bit larger like suns or jendays, they are "loud screemers" but not loud birds in my own opinion it's b/c it's all about how you train them but they do tend to be loud. With that said, I do find blue throated conures to be relatively SWEET HEARTS!!!!!!!! and they are not very loud but rare to find! I love those guys!! I was quite close to bringing "gambit" home but I resisted.

There are many scams on the internet. While looking for Myrtle, there was a man who had an emergency and wanted to rehome a pair of african greys real fast at no charge. He was in Kentucky and wanted me to send the money to ship them. When I told him I don't believe in shipping and will drive to get them, he never responded.

Wow is all I can say ... People are SO low. :| Even though this has nothing to do with birds I might as well share since were on the topic on scams. My aunt lives in Florida where there is ample needy people. She apparently drove to a gas station really early in the morning, 3am I think. (She works as a manager of the local newspaper there so she has to be at work super early) Anywho, there was a woman there asking for gas money holding one of those tiny 2 gallon red gas jugs saying her car ran out of gas and she needed help. My aunt tells her to go to pump #2 and shell buy the gas for her. The woman got so mad but didnt know what to say. (She wanted the money to buy drugs with or alcohol but couldnt since my aunt was gonna pay for it for her instead of just giving her the money ahah)

Another quick story ... My aunts friend who also lives in Florida went to the grocery store one day. When she came out of the store and a man was standing outside asking for money saying he was homeless and starving. So my aunts friend reaches into her grocery bag and hands the man some peanut butter and bread. As shes driving away she sees the man throw the food on the ground and stomp on it. He was SOO starving and homeless ...

I was on vacation in India and the currency there is so low that I ended up giving a guy who was sitting on the street asking for money about $15 USD which is about a weeks worth of money there (with a crappy job). We go off shopping and I come back to my grandparent's house and hes sitting there with a beer talking to people.

Now wherever I go I only give money to people who are disabled, can't trust anyone else. :/

AGREED! It's really sad how low people are these days ... :| It's utterly ridiculous that people come off as "homeless & needy" just to get a beer or a smoke.

I wanted to update & let everyone know I have decided on an Congo African Grey. :D I put a deposit down on an egg which is due to hatch any day now. :D I did not specify if I wanted a male or female so I won't know the gender till much later on. I believe it's 3 weeks after the baby hatches?? Then 14 weeks till it comes home. :D I made sure to let the breeder know not to clip the baby's wings so it can learn to fly right away. I'll update with more information & pics as I get them. I did want some help with possible names if anyone has any ideas? I like to name my pets names that are from the place the animal originates from so because it's an African Grey I want an African name. Does anyone know of any African names? I'm also up to any other suggestions as well. I've already wrote down Rosso, Chasson, and Colletto as possible names.

Cheers everyone! :D :gray:
