The people you asked don't know what they are talking about.
Check out my blog for lots of articles/videos about living with my never-clipped Cape Parrot. There is no relationship between clipping wings and bonding with a bird. A bird bonds to you because you do things it likes and not because you clip its wings so that it can't get away. Just because a bird can't get away, doesn't mean it inherently likes you. There's no need to clip a handfed baby parrot because they are naturally inquisitive and like to be around people if properly raised.
Keeping a flighted parrot is no more difficult than keeping a clipped parrot. It's just that people who clip grow complacent and cut corners. They begin to think it's ok to leave doors/windows open etc because the bird doesn't normally fly. However, I have heard plenty of cases when the bird that never flies gets spooked one day and ends up flying out a window never to be found again. If done right, a clipped parrot requires the exact same precautions and training efforts as does a flighted parrot. The only difference is that the flighted parrot can be stronger and healthier while the clipped parrot is forced to live an unbirdlike life.
