Getting a second Conure?

My girlfriend got Annie (a Cinnamon Cheek Conure) from a aviary as soon as she was weaned. Annie will be 3 in February and has been an only bird since she got her.

I have heard that 2 birds are easier than 1, but I am concerned that introducing a new bird may have negative results. How would I go about it, and would I want to get another Conure, or a different species. Thank you.

You kidding me? 2 birds is times harder. First of all twice the cleaning and everything. Then you have to train both separately. Then there's issues of them not getting along with each other or getting along too much and hating everyone else. It's a lot more work and I wouldn't recommend it unless you know what you're doing and really want another bird.

I know a few people who have two conures, and they get along great. It's nice that they keep each other company when you are away. I'm all for birdie companionship.

Had a green cheek for a year, thought that he was lonely and got him a frieadn...a Sun conure. IT took 2 months to get them to live in the same cage and all was well. Then they started having little disagreements that would end in some bird screaming and one of them ending up on the bottom of the cage. I figured lovers quarrel, all is OK. Then we went away for a week to a funeral and had them get fed and watered by our daughter. When we got back the Sun had a bald spot on top of his head where we thing the green cheek got a good mouthful of feathers in an argument.

We decided that it best to separate them. They are in the same room about 15 feet apart and seem OK. Whenever we let them out they hang out together constantly, so they are still buddies and they do a lot of butt rubbing with each other (i am guessing they are trying to mate) and all is well.

I think if you do get a second bird just be prepared for anything.

It's a lot more work. I wouldn't recommend it, especially if you mean for it to be easier. Also, it changes your relationship with your first bird slightly.

Hi, we've got 2 in the same cage, but they were always together, they are great, I don't find it extra work at all, one poopy is just as much mess as 2 and worth it. Just be prepared to maybe have to have 2 cages, reckon in time they might chill, but still, I think they are great company for eachother. We are most likely going to get a Sun in the new year, so guess I'll probably be eating my words huh? will be a seperate cage of course, but would be great if could have all 3 them out at play time.
