Irn acts like both a boy and a girl, whats your guess ;)

I know until the ring appears there's no way of knowing one way or the other besides a dna test, however when bird did the little dove sound with his butt in the air i thought maybe he was a girl. Now ive seen him do that heaps of times, the confusion started a couple of weeks ago when i saw him do the 'man moves' :D standing up tall and skinny with his eyes pinned and his wings out a little. Ive seen him do that a few times since then. Its rather fun guessing!! ;) we're laying bets againat one another, what do all of you think?

Since Indian Ringnecks are sexually dimorphic, you're just going to have to wait until the bird grows up a little and molts. ;)

If it's not sexually mature yet (no neck ring = juvenile/immature), I doubt sitting with the butt in the air is a sign that it's a female.

:irn: Well actually, it is most common for females to make that posture, i wasnt sure how often males did it however. Im also not sure how often females do the showy dance, as its most commonly a male dance. Im actually aware (as i said) that he will get a ring in 9 or so more months if he is indeed a he, and im quite happy to wait. As i also said above - we have been having fun guessing between ourselves, if i really wanted to know i would have had him tested, i just thought it would b fun to take a guess.

i have a 6 month old IRN too, so i am also playing the waiting game to discover my birds sex.
i am leaning more towards a male. the behavior is very different from Bette my female.
she was quite shy and did the little flat chicken-clucking thing when i petted her.
the one does a similar thing but its much different. this one is more bold and struts around with his wings out a bit. she never did that.
i named my new bird Baby, since its a nice unisex name, and close to "Abby" which is what the previous owners called him. so i wait with anticipation to watch for signs of a ring to appear.
i always wanted a male, they are so beautiful.
whatever it may be, i love this bird! he is so cool. i can't wait for all his feathers to grow in. right now he is a stub tail. the long ones broke and eventually fell out.
so we both watch and wait to see what we get :)

Yeah, I'm waiting on mine too. Behavior is like a female - posture when petted, slight cage aggression - however, a slight ring is already visible, and the brow is getting pronounced.

Like I said, if it's not sexually mature yet, why would s/he make a "sexual" posture?
The bird's just a kid yet. ;)

Because its instinctual i guess. Its not like he/she would 'learn' the behaviour from me..?

No, but that instinct shouldn't kick in before the hormones do, that's all I'm saying. ;)
