Safely introducing him to our conservatory

Postby laducockatiel » Fri Nov 18, 2011 2:00 am

Hi guys,

So my dad had a conservatory built and I would like to be able to take Ladu to the conservatory as I think he will enjoy it and it will make him fee like he is outside. However, he has had a bit of a problem with the windows of the conservatory at my friends house (he flew around the room, hit the windows and his crest fell out, it has grown back now though) so I was wondering what would be the best way to introduce him to the conservatory and make him think that he is not outside? Any input would be much appreciate!

Regards,

Carry him around and gently touch/knock his beak on the windows, to make him realise they are there. Also, maybe let him be in a cage in the conservatory first to get to know the surroundings, before letting him lose. That way he wont panic and crash into a window.
I dont know really but this is what I did when getting Stitch used to our appartment (we have huge windows) and he's not once flown into them =).

Thanks very much for your help, it is much appreciated. I will try your method and hopefully it will work. The only problem about the conservatory is the roof. It is not completely see - through (it is slightly tinted, but im afraid he will hit the roof thinking he can fly out, hit it and get injured, any help on that?

If you are not fully sure, I dont want to put you under pressure and I really appreciate your input to this topic, thanks very much

Other than covering the roof with a bedsheet (the only thing I could think of right now ^^), I would do the same thing as with the windows maybe?

If its a tinted glass chances are that he wont fly into it anyway, but its good to be on the safe side =).

Introducing him physically to all the windows may not be enough. To be safe I would put lines/ crosses of colored tape on the glass to remind him that the glass is there.

Not a bad idea :) , use a tape that comes off easily though, and doesnt leave any marks (wrong kind of tape can be a real nuisance and be next to impossible to remove.

Electric tape should be good but there are bound to be better alternatives as well. Maybe just use a small piece and tape up a regular paper in the center?

NEVER use duct-tape for this kind of thing, while its good it will leave marks.
Another bad tape is papertape, if you leave it will dry out and be very hard to remove.

Thanks for all your help guys. Im not really sure about covering the roof though (to cover the roof will be very hard) but I will definetely use the tape idea. Thanks again,
