Help needed with Conure

Hi guys ,im new to this forum and recently adopted a four year old GCC ,who was left in a will for me by a customer of mine (im a 17 year old with a weekend job at a pet shop) , she was padlocked in a cage for all her life with a few rags for toys , i bought a second hand african grey cage and threw in some different perches rather than the poop overed dowels ( put in a calcium and apple tree branches etc ) , and pimped up her cage by spending £150 on cool toys like foraging ones etc (although she never seems to play with them :s) , she was alsp fed soley on limes ,oranges and cockatiel seed, ive ordered some pellet food and give her mixed veg once a day. She loves my ten year old brother and my mum :/ but can nip me sometimes (even though i take care of her and give her treats ..anyone know why? ) also just out of curiosity ...will she learn to talk ? She doesnt atm . Also when I target train her she wants to murder the chopstick and loves chewing it lol which is annoying because it defeats the purpose of just a 'touch' :s. Ive only had her a week and she seems to be in good condition now ...any tips ?????

Your best bet is to give the bird some time. Is it flighted? If so, parrot proof the room and leave the door open. Put some treats outside. I did that and it worked for me. Talk to it and handfeed it treats. Look at Michael's training videos. Best advice i can give.

Where do you target train it? My gcc is very cage territorial and will rapidfire bite anything that is put into his cage, except my arm...sometimes.

You could put him onto a table and then target train him

Same with my cockatiel Whenever the door opens, he gets freaked out and jumps

GCCs are known to be nippy. My BCC is very similar to the GCCs and can also be nippy sometimes. If it any consolation, as time has gone by, Nikko doesn't nip either as often or as hard as he used to when I first got him.

As for talking, GCCs *CAN* learn to speak. Whether any individual parrot *WILL* learn to talk is a roll of he dice, even with species like african greys or amazons. You new companion may not have gotten much direct attention from its prior owner, so it may not have picked up any words. The more you talk to it, the more likely it will be to speak. My Nikko has a vocabulary that is probably in the 25-30 word range. He says "step up", "step down" (usually after I've told one of my other birds to step up), "good boy", "give me a kiss", "peek a boo", "yeah", "silly boy", "I love you", and "hey sweetie" among other things.

Nikko is about the same age as your GCC and he is a very quick learner. I'd expect your GCC to be able to pick up new things quickly too.
