One of the rescues using confusing body language?

I brought home the two rescue GCC's today. They are a bonded pair and so they are kept in the same cage. Everything is going good except the smaller of the two is exhibiting body language and I don't know what it means.

He sort of leans forward with his wings out a bit and screeches. I know he doesn't want to be cuddled or anything, they aren't hand tame and any attempt to touch them results in being bit. They both have food and water, the cage is in a warm area and its clean.

What is he trying to tell me?

hmmmm, He obviously wants something, Maybe he wants out to fly, or maybe he is afraid of his new surroundings and is fearfully asking you to be nice, Hopefully someone who knows bird body language better will answer.

Maybe it has been so long since anyone has been nice to him that he just wants your attention, but he could want out to fly. That would be a way of letting him know that his life has really changed.
If good food and water are in the cage they will go back to it.

At this point you don't know what they have ever had. Some birds don't want to explore new things.
Myrtle lived on seed and water before I got her. All she had to do is see me eat something and she wanted it. She started learning new foods from Rambo and then taught him to eat foods he would never try before.

Those two birds have been in an awful jail for a long time. Anything new you can give them or do for them will be enrichment and expand their little minds.

Usually I would think it is aggressive but this sounds different. Maybe he is just nervous. He might also be trying to get your attention, if they used to be in a home where they were ignored.

It sounds like the "I want". Baby birds flutter slightly and make a noise when they want food. My birds still do this when they are asking for something or begging for what I have. The bird is asking for something and you have to figure out what it's little birdie brain wants.

I think what you are describing is a bird that's a bit nervous/want to go somewhere it can't/doesn't dare to go.
If the behaviour you're describing is the same as i think it is this is commonly seen in clipped birds or birds in poor condition that wants to fly some place, a bird in a cage that wants to get out, or a bird that's nervous/a bit stressed for another reason.

Paper Lantern have you opened the door for them to come out? Maybe the begger wants more freedom.

My mothers sun conure does this also.

He usually does it when he is nervous.

Give the bird some time, try covering the back corner of his cage with the cover you use at night, this may help make him feel more secure and give him somewhere to hide.
