Parrots, Dogs, and Fleas:

Postby psittacine4me2 » Tue Dec 20, 2011 7:56 pm

I'm new here, and I have a slight problem. I have six parrots, and also three dogs. I treat my dogs with topical flea/tick guard, but recently I've developed a flea problem. More than just being on the dogs, I'm afraid they're generally in the house as well as I am also being bitten. Obviously, with birds, I can't use an insect bomb, or any of the powdered vacuum-in insecticides. Does anyone know of an effective and parrot-safe way to rid my house of these six legged blood suckers?

We had a tick problem awhile back. I can't recall the name, but Petsmart had a spray that we used on the carpet that was bird safe. It solved the problem for us.

Back when i had bo, we actually had a spray they we could put on him to protect against fleas and ticks. We got thia from the bird section of our petstore. Just be sure to read the instructions thoroughly beforehand. Hope this helped :)

Look into diatamatious(sp) earth the food grade kind. It is safe for pretty much everything and it kills fleas. You can even eat it if u want. My friend used it , and had good results. Hope this helps.

We have two dogs and a Senegal Parrot.
We use Frontline on the dogs once a month and that keeps the dogs from picking up fleas.
I've never seen a flea on the bird.

Frontline is groovy since it is just a small amount of liquid you put directly on the dog's skin between their shoulder blades.
It is not a spray or something that gets all over the dog's hair which would spread around the house.
