Worrying about my grey

Postby macbrush » Mon Jan 02, 2012 5:39 am

Had a traffic accident yesterday, and need to spend at least a few weeks in hospital. My new grey was just started bonding to me, and begging for me to play all day. Now I have to rely on my family to feed him and clean the cage, but they want nothing to do with training. I have asked them to talk to Spencer when possible.

Any suggestions on how to keep Spencer a little happier while I am not at home?

Thanks a million in advance.

hello, sorry to here about your accident. have you checked your area for places that will take your bird while you are in the hospital? the place i adopted my cockatoo does boarding for people who need it not sure what the cost but your bird would get attention.

Tell your family that the grey is your baby and they need to take care of it accordingly. There is no reason why they cannot socialize with it verbally and hand it a goody now and then. Remind them that you need the peice of mind that he is well cared for and treated like part of the family.

You did not say if you lived at home or if they have to go to your home to care for him.

Where are you? Is there a parrot parent in your area? I know I would take him in if he were near me maybe we have a member near you who will do it.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try to make my family understand a short social period a day for Spencer would go a long way. I live with my dad and my brother, so they should be able to take care of all of my pets and talk to Spencer a few mins a day at least.

I live in Hong Kong, and we don't have any parrot parents nearby, but I may be able to locate someone in a local parrot club, I'll see what the doctor say next, if the recovery is going to require me to stay in hospital for a long time, then I'll consider that route.

Cheers

Maybe your parents will bond with your grey. Greys are so intelligent he will wear them down.

My dad and my brother asked me how to take care of my cockroaches and leopard geckos. So I guess they know what my pets mean to me, and would take very good care of Spencer. Another good news is that doctor already scheduled a surgery for me tomorrow, so I should be going home in next few more days if everything goes as planned.

If they asked how to feed the other animals, that means they are spoiling your grey.

LOL - but I think he ment a hissing cockroach.

That has to be creepy to have a bug hiss at you.

When I was in the Phiippines my neighbors complained about the noise the roaches made when they turned out the light. I didn't have that problem because I rescued a wild kitten. That kitten was really mean to me but she was well worth her Friskies.

LOL... Yeah, I have those Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, actually I started with those, and then I kept more and more different species of hissers, as well as some other very special cockroaches, like the Giant Burrowing Cockroach from Australia, they live up to 10 years old, only begin to breed when they're 4 years old and can weight 65g. I also keep a few species of feeders for my leopard geckos.
