bathing

Postby dan4 » Wed Jan 25, 2012 7:14 am

My irn has never bathed on his own and now and again I give him a warm spray bath but he attempts to get away from the spray. It will make him grumpy, he obviusly doesn't like being sprayed. When he's out I leave a shallow bowl but he only ever drinks from it

He does groom and doesnt appear dirty but he must have to bath...?

hi dan4,
how about shower in bathroom?i guess our shower its too strong for him,so u might to buy the softer one n try.jojo never come to bowl too,i guess he dsnt feel comfort to jump inside bowl because of his long tail.
at beginning he hates the spray bath n always fly away but i spray my self in front of him n show him how good n fresh is it for few days,he likes it now!!when i spray him, he lift his wings open n start to do small dance, soo cute  i spray him from above of his head but quite far away to make soft rain effect.n slowly i can make it more near n near him n now he accept the spray bath without any problem.(after spray bath he can get small nut also n now he beg me every morning for spray bath)

about the bowl for bath,i tried many times,it never works.he just play around n throw the bowl to make mess n i need to mop so i stop it.once i give him huge big bowl n he tried to step inside but he realized his tail not fit inside,he go away from it.i guess stuey has long tail also right?

I can't move him at the moment he is not tame enough

I will try to treat him after spray but i fear he might be too grumpy. Yes his tail is too long for bowl

hi,
yes i guess is the tail,he dsnt feel comfort. my advice is make the spray bath more fun!spray urself n spray him again, repeat this n when it finish give treat.at first i just spray him like 4 times, next day 6 times n slowly i can shower him till he is wet enough.oh ya,does he scared of the spray bottle?put it in front of him for few days before u spray it to him.this gonna takes bit some days or even weeks but the important thing is u have to make him want to bath-n enjoy it.

i hope this help,good luck!!

i'd be carefull to spray him with a light mist at first, in sprayed in the wrong way they can develop a fear of water. i only say this because my ringneck did, temporarily. Now she injoys beathing in her bowl. make the water slightly warm so it doesnt get a cold too.

First of all, make sure you're not squirting a hard stream of water at your bird when you spray him. Put your spray bottle on a mist setting. If he doesn't like the water coming straight at him, spray just above him and let the mist settle on him like rain. Sometimes it take a while for them to warm up to it and other times they like it right away. Just keep experimenting with different ways and see how he likes it.
