Postby Melon » Thu Feb 02, 2012 7:01 am

-how it supposed to be?scratching/pulling/combing or what?
-i found something white really hard like small stick(maybe 3 cm) around her neck,i touch it n she sqwack.i read from internet i should broke it off,is it correct ?if yes how??
-should i rub her from up to down or down to up motion?
-how about the blood feather?what i have to do?
-she is bald from time i adopt her,but have soft baby fur around.what i have to do with them?
sorry for a lot of question,in my country youtube is not permitted so i cant watch any preening video.thanks alot for the help!!

hi melon, to preen your bird look for long stems start with part farthest from the body, take it gently between pad of one finger and use thumbnail to scrape off shell working toward the body. the small white hard are new pin feathers, i leave those and blood feathers alone. the down feathers, baby fur,i leave those alone except when she lifts her wings which means she wants me to rub under. since you don't get youtube do you have facebook?i put videos of my own on there since they like to watch themselves.

Don't touch under the wings, it could trigger hormones... You can break off 'ripe' pin feathers and those are sort of crispy and break apart easily.

hi,
oh thats bad,i used to touch it n she dsnt let anybody else touch her wing .if i touch her wings n somebody pass or try to talk with me,she bites them.i dont know why.
the ex-owner always do that to her n she kills me for that now :(
well,i need to change her habit now.
n for touching head, she dsnt really enjoy it.is it ok if i dont preen her too much??sometimes she keep forcing n following me around to get scratch for 1 hour!!

hi melon, you can preen as much as you want.my bluefronted amazon would not let me preen him but he would chase my greencheek around with his head down feathers up wanting him to do it.my greencheek won't let me either. mya demands it, so it's up to you and your bird.
