Hi There. I'm really hoping someone out there can help answer my question, as I'm somewhat worried and at a loss.
I was away from home last week, which meant that Kali, my year old Senegal had to go to the Sitter's house for a week. This is someone whom I trust and has a very good relationship with my bird, but doesn't have the most experience. That being said, I've left Kali with her in the past for approximately this length of time and shorter and never experienced any problems. When I picked her up she was typically happy to see me, but shortly after getting her back home, Kali is now TERRIFIED of my hands, to the point that I can't even approach her with my hands showing, let alone having her step up (something she's never experienced any problems with in the past). She is OK with flying to me and landing on me when called (she's just learning this on the best of days, but she seems to be OK with it), but again I have to have my hands hidden from her. As soon as she even sees them she flys away from me and I've got to call her back.
Has anyone ever experienced this? I had the sitter come by today to see how she reacted (to see if Kali all of a sudden had an issue with me over the female sitters), but even she said that Kali was acting VERY weird compared to when she had her. It's quite stressful on me, not to mention her. Please let me know if you've experienced anything similar and what you've done to mitigate it.
Anthony
