A little update on Spencer

Postby macbrush » Sun Feb 26, 2012 9:34 am

Spencer has progressed quite a bit since I got him last December. Now he's eager to play (train), not only he allows me to touch him now, he would also drop the reward I gave him for a head scratch as a reward. So I guess our bonding has improved quite a bit. Unfortunately, I am still temporarily disabled due to the motorcycle accident on Jan, so I didn't let him out a lot, and didn't bring him outside at all, but I think he's coping with it well, I bought 2 UV light for him to make sure he at least get some UV, and hopefully with D3 supplement in the food, would be enough for him to go by until I am recovered.

He still got some behavior problem, but has improved since then though. Now most of time he would only make his angry look (pointy beaks) to warn me instead of bite straight away. The only time he would bite without thinking is when he wants something very much that he couldn't get to, and if I try to grab that object. I would have to think of some way for him to ask for an object, still working on that.

All in all, I must admit that at the beginning, hearing all those postings about getting baby birds, how cuddly they are the first day they got home, how they step up straight away... etc, in local forums have been sometimes frustrated at best, compare to what I have been through with a 2.5 years old adapted bird. But after sometimes, I realized earning the trust and possibly respect of Spencer is extremely rewarding, and satisfactory experience, I wouldn't have it any other way if I have to do it again.

Good to hear! CAGs take a while to trust, but I'm sure it's very rewarding! :)
