Misting

Postby cml » Tue Mar 06, 2012 2:14 pm

Stitch loves to shower, and we never have to mist him as he showers with me everyday. However, Leroy isnt as tame or sure of himself, and taking him to the shower is so far going to be impossible. He does step up and can do flight recall, but if we were to walk towards our bathroom he would fly off.

We have tried misting him with a waterspray bottle, but he really dislikes that, so I am not sure what to do. Any suggestions? We've tried with both slightly warm and cold water, it makes no difference, he doesnt like it. We've tried inside the case and out of it.

Some birds like to be misted from below, some from above. My friend's cockatiel only likes being misted head-on, right into his face! I've seen videos of birds running back and forth in the sink under a thin stream of water. Others prefer to bathe in a sink or bowl filled with shallow water. Just experiment and see.

Maybe he's scared of the spray bottle? Try spraying away from him a few times and treat him so he learns it's okay. Some birds don't like the sound of it at first.
