HELP! Plastic around wing!

Postby HaleyJade » Tue Mar 20, 2012 6:07 pm

Hello!
I bought my first rainbow lorikeet yesterday and all is going well, except that he has what looks like plastic tape wrapped around the feathers on his left wing, obviously to stop him flying. I can hold him and touch him, but I really want to remove it from his wing because it's not fair or comfortable for him, but I'm not sure how to do it in the least traumatic way.
Please help!

Thank you,

Haley. :rainbow:

If its sticky plastic then don't try to get it off yourself, it will cause your bird too much distress so you should take him to an avian vet and have them do it. If it isnt sticky then I guess you can attempt to do it yourself but its impossible for anyone to say really without seeing it. If your going to attempt it then I would suggest securing your bird in a towell with someone else to hold the bird still. Unless it looks easy to get off I would still suggest the vet route though to be on the safe side who can anethatise the bird if its needed, that way it will minimize any damage to the trust you currently have as well.
