Really concerned all of a sudden about FuzzyButt

Postby Crazypetlady » Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:32 pm

A thought popped into my head tonight and now I'm really worried about something.

The "professional bird hand raisers" I'm getting my CAG (FuzzyButt) from clipped my sun conure's wings before I brought her home. What if they do the same to FuzzyButt !?! I don't want him to be clipped ever. And I'm letting my thoughts get away from me now. Clipping wings to me is as disgusting as female circumcision ( sounds overly dramatic, I know, but I get the same kind of disgust thinking about it sometimes so...)

Anyway, I can ask them not to clip his wings, but what if they refuse to honor my wishes? I'm afraid they might dig their heels in and say that they will forfeit the CAG's health guarantee.

I dunno, I know I won't know until I bring it up but I feel I need to be prepared to argue my case and be on the offensive before I even walk into that place on Saturday.

I guess just ask and if they refuse to sell the bird unclipped then you need to make the descision to go elsewhere or get your bird anyway. If you feel that strongly about it then I do suggest finding another breeder though, the more people who refuse clipped birds the less likely the breeders are to clip in the first place.

I can't refuse to take him clipped, I'm afraid. The money I've given them thus far is non-refundable.

Isn't it your right to demand that they dont clip your bird? After all its going to be YOUR bird.

If I were you I would read the contract youve made again, and see if they really specified that the bird must be clipped. If not you can probably demand that they either dont clip the bird or cancel the transaction and refund your money.

EDIT:
Even if its stated that it will void the health guarantee, maybe thats not such a big problem? How long is that guarantee for anyway?

I hope that you can convince them not to clip, so that you can keep Fuzzy, he/she looks like a nice parrot :)!

This is why it's an absolute must to discuss this ahead of time. Most breeders are too stupid/lazy to be capable of raising flighted parrots and clip them very early no matter what. Personally I think any breeder that relies on clipping isn't a good breeder and I wouldn't recommend getting a parrot from them even if clipped is what you seek. All you can do at this point is asked but don't be surprised if the breeder says its impossible cause the bird already got clipped! If it's at fledgling age.

Unfortunately, if your breeder will only sell clipped, that is a not a good breeder. It's very important to research breeders and ask a million questions before you support their business. There are too many crappy ones around that only do it for the money.

You are already attached to that baby. Don't wait until Sunday. Call him now and let him know that you don't want him clipped.

This may be a silly question.....and please don't be angry for me asking. I understand that you feel clipping to be mutilation toward a bird- but does clipping have any long lasting detrimental affects to a bird psychologically or physically? What I mean is worse case scenario if the bird is clipped the wings would grow back.......you wouldn't be happy that he had to suffer through a clipping, but would he have nay lasting affects?

Hopefully you can get him unclipped- I'm just trying to understand the reasoning behind it being so essential. Thanks for humoring a new parrot mom :)

Why would a bird have permanent mental retardation from having it's wings clipped?
