Random biting

While Spencer's training is back on track, but he still not willing to step up after the incident out of the cage last time. That's not a problem, I can give it patience. However, he has this biting thing that's bothering me. Sometimes he would ask for a scratch and while letting me scratch him in one side, when I touch the other side of his head, he bites and withdraw, but the strange thing is he would come back right away and ask for more scratches. Or worse, he would ask for a scratch and as soon as I touch him, he attacks.

Sometimes when I am hold a toy to play with him, while he's chewing the toy, he would suddenly attack the toy for no reasons, if I take the toy away and come back later with the toy, there is 50% chance that he would either attack the toy right away or just chew and play with it.

All I do after his attack is to walk away and come back later.

I do have a feeling that it is the unpredictable, unprovoked biting caused Spencer's previous owner gave him up. Since I couldn't find Spencer's previous owner anymore, I guess I would never know. Hopefully time will eventually gain me Spencer's trust enough to have him tamed.

Sometimes, at least in Poicephalus, too much excitement can turn into aggression. If Kili gets too excited about a new toy or attention she can take it too far. Sometimes she will bait people by asking to be pet by bending her head down and then trying to bite them as soon as they get close enough. I suggest working on touching his beak and eventually holding his beak while you pet him so that these moments are avoided.
