Jumpers and fluffy clothing...

Postby HaleyJade » Tue May 01, 2012 6:19 am

So my young lorikeet, Samson, has this issue with jumpers and thick or fluffy clothing. He nibbles by nature, but only really to taste and interact with his environment. However, when it comes to these types of clothing he really changes. I'm not sure if it's just aggressive behavior or him becoming very frustrated and irritated, but he will get very passionate about biting the clothing. He will grab it, try to do a crocodile roll with it, hold it in his beak and pull it forcefully side to side, or just gnaw very intently at it. I'm not quite sure how to handle this behavior. I have tried doing what i did to stop him biting people and that is to wobble him, but as soon as the wobble is gone, he thinks for a moment and then goes right back to attacking the clothing. He is extremely sociable, more so than any of my other birds, but if someone's wearing a jumper, or something thick or fluffy, he just has to go for it. This is the only time he ever exhibits this sort of behaviour! :?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :rainbow:

i had a very aggressive :rainbow: she attacked me daily for 5 years i only tolerated her because she got along so well with my :amazon: .when i was setting up my son's nursery my aunt came to help the birds were out as usual and she went right to my aunt and was so nice to her i sent her to live with her.when i would visit my aunt this bird who drew blood on me daily for 5 years came up to me and snuggled up and gave me a kiss i was happy and jealous that she tamed her. then she showed me her secret she had bought the most colorful fluffy blanket she could find it was colored like the :rainbow: she had cut it up in squares and gave them to her to cuddle and play with when she got aggressive she took the squares away.i don't know if this was the reason but i just thought i would share maybe it will work for you too.

Okay, thank you! That sound like a great idea! He is not normally aggressive, so it's just a very strange behaviour! I will do my best now to go shopping and find a colorful blanket (: I'm certain he will love that now! And hopefully that will teach him too (: thank you VERY much!
