ZuZu is HOME Finally !!!

Postby Crazypetlady » Fri May 11, 2012 8:32 pm

So the homecoming went uneventful except for the torturous nail clipping and wing trimming one of the women did to him before we left. Everybody at this place is great, but this particular woman always gave me the creeps, but now.. she will never touch Zuzu again.

I mean, you tell me... have you ever seen someone throw a towel on a bird, then cover his head and then proceed to grab him by the neck with one hand and pick him up with his legs flailing around, then flip him upside down and clip his toe nails causing EVERY ONE OF THEM TO BLEED. OMG!!! I'm still livid about that. But I didn't say a word. It was best that she finish up and I leave with him without causing a scene. He will never get another wing trimming (ever), and nail trimmings will be done by yours truly from now on.

Anyways... . that all aside, he went into his pet carrier like a champ, did somersaults on the way home and then once he got home, he was culture shocked stiff. LOL! Well, not really, but it's a new place, new cage, new people (even tho we've been visiting him for weeks...) and new animals he's never seen before. His cage is adjacent to the conures' cage, about 5 feed away.

I left the default dowel in his enormous cage (which he's not used to) about 3-4 inches from the bottom, and served him his pellets in a small dog bowl at the bottom of the cage. He did climb up a couple times but nearly fell down once. There is nothing else in that cage except for a swing he probably can't reach anyway. I just don't want him to hurt himself falling down in an unfamiliar cage. At 15 weeks of age, he's still a bit unsure of how his feet and balance work.

We mostly left him alone today. He's used to going to bed and everything going dark at 6pm. I covered him around 7pm. I don't have a proper cage cover yet (it's ordered) so I put a queen sized bed sheet over his cage and it was still so small that it only covers half of it. And he is sleeping on the floor (not even on the perch yet). Poor baby... I'm going to need to wash one of the larger blankets for him tomorrow to use until his cage cover shows up in the mail.

Here are some pix of him checking out his cage and the ride home.
