Behavioral changes?

Postby GreenWing » Tue May 15, 2012 9:35 pm

I'm not sure if I have anything to really worry about, or if these "parrot behaviors" are normal. Tiki is believed to go through sexual maturity soon, so maybe that is it?

Tiki "chose me" as her owner. I bonded with her quite a bit before taking her home and she seemed to really enjoy being with me.

Now, after having her home for about a week... she seems to be a bit stubborn. She won't always step up, and she won't eat from my hand. She would eat almonds from my hand at first but now won't. I'm not sure why and I can't think of any reason why. She has even backed away as I offer my hand saying "step up"

Any advice, comments?

How old is Tiki?

I would think it's more likely Tiki has settled in all week and is now feeling brave enough to push the boundaries and see what he can get away with.

Are you by chance forcing her to step up, or asking her to? There's a big difference.

I noticed she's clipped, so you became her only mode of transportation. If everytime you pick her up it's to move her away from her favorite spot, to put her back in the cage, etc, then she's going to associate stepping up negatively.

With my ringneck, I offer my hand a few inches away, and if she wants to step up she will. I would say she walks over and steps up 95% of the time.
