Guess What??

Postby Jake » Sun May 20, 2012 5:44 pm

My Oliver came home yesterday. He is eating lots and being a good bird. The only problem I am having is he is nippy and I am not exactly sure how to approach that problem other than trying to ignore him and having a toy or something close by to distract him.

Good idea. He has not had time to adjust. Ignore the nipping and don't push him to do anything he does not want until you have bonded.

Your little guy should adjust in a day or two. You'll want to try to leave him be some the first couple days as he adjusts. Talk softly to him as you are near his located saying his name often. He will get to know his name sooner that way. After he is settled, you need to address the nipping. Don't pull your hand away because he sees that as you fear him and his is flock leader. Nope! You are. When he nips, say "no" or "no bite" in a stern but non threatening voice. This is how I break them of that and then all is better. Birds are the best! :budgie:

Thanks for the tips. Oliver my grey is doing a little better. I think he may have been nipping because he was grumpy. He hadnt had his vegetables at the tip. Im trying to let him have some time to himself while still playing with him. He really likes to sit on the playtop and look around.
