is it ok for my green cheek conures to chew of wood plank

Postby AuraKiwi&Jala » Fri Jun 01, 2012 3:29 pm

I have some untreated pine plank pieces left over from some construction, is it safe for them to chew on planks specifically?
Thank you,

As long as they are untreated, yes!

Yes it will be ok, just make 100% sure they are untreated. Does your green cheek chew much? Mine doesn't bother with wood but he does like a bit of cardboard to shred.

Aw thats great then. Trying to get mine to chew more because I worry his beak will get overgrown. I bought a toy made out of softer wood a couple of weeks back so I'm hoping that will help. It's toy roatation day so it's going in shortly. I was told green cheeks don't chew much by the breeder and in my case he was spot on.

Same here, only both of ours do chew on wood, but their beaks grow anyway!

Not had a problem with overgrowth so far, I did get a bit concerned a couple of months ago cuz it looked a bit flakey and the tip seemed a bit long and funny but I left it a few weeks and it's fine again now. I think it was just due to a bad moult because their beaks flake too.
