Hi Helena,

Have you got your sennie yet? How is she?? I hope she has settled in :)

I got my male sennie (buddy) back in April time, he is a little gem! I moved into my own apartment about a month before that so was feeling a little lonely, we have 2 budgies at my parents house which I adored but couldnt really take them with me, thought it would have been abit unfair to move them around. On the day I got him I had to travel about 35 miles to the breeder, I got the cage aswell along with a couple of play things, he was quiet as a mouse on the journey home. Once we were back I just sat and talked to him constantly for the first couple of days, then he just seemed to change, he came out of his shell and was exploring his cage etc so I thought it was time to let him out. I just opened his cage door and sat next to the cage, eventually he did come out, didnt go that far but it was really brave of him! In no time he was all over me letting me stroke him, I think it took about a week to get fully confident around me then he wouldnt leave me along, following me around wanting to be with me. Plus he makes the funniest cutest little sounds, he wolf whistles and mimicks my kissing sounds!

We go and stay with my parents most weekends, he doesnt like the pets because I think he gets a bit jealous, he chases the cats, he doesnt let anyone else go near him either (especially my dad) They draw bonds with one particular person, I dont know if hens are different??!

I hope your little girl will be ok, Buddy does sometimes give me a nip, not out of agression just out of being payful to see how far he can go and it does hurt!!

He is a very special little guy, wouldnt swap him for the world.

Keep us updated xx

Hi there,

no I don't have her yet. She is going to arrive next weekend. She was supposed to arrive this weekend but the delivery man could not go, so at least I have a bit more time to gather very much needed information.

I already told Mia that she will not be able to touch it untill her birthday party which will be in three weeks time since Coco will be here.

Look at this video. That is Coco, he said that she is biting sometimes but that she is very gentle.
Obviously I will see that for myself when she is here. Birds have strong beaks and I tend not to believe that a bird can be biting gently. But maybe she is.

I am really looking forward to having her.

I am going to get back to reading there is a lot of informations I need to know.

I will keep you updated xxx

Hide the bird from the party kids. That would really upset it to have kids making noise and running around.

Thanks for this very good suggestion. I will definitelly do that.

Is it enough to cover her as when I put her to sleep? Girls will be mostly outside.

Or I could take her upstairs and shut the door on a room. That would probably be better. But isn't she going to be confused having her cage somewhere else as she is used to?

Thanks

she won't be confused she might like to see a different room. put a radio in there and some new toys to keep her occupied.that grabbing with the beak is normal and doesn't hurt if the bird gets excited and does start to hurt just let her know the limit by telling her no and gently removing her beak. sometimes mya :corella: does this when playing gets excited and i have to stop her before she gets too rough.

It's a good idea to move her cage about from time to time anyway, the more variety you can add to her life the more adaptable she will be later to new situations. The more adaptable she is the less stressed she will be. Varying routines, places, toys, letting her meet as many people as possible (I agree that the party might be too much though and another room is a good idea) etc will also benefit you as you won't be panicing about her being stressed if anything changes like another kid, change in working circumstances, late home from somewhere because you will know she will take it all in her stride.

Thank you very much for all the information and suggestions! You cannot imagine how much I appreciate them!

Another question. The cage is on the top of the wardrobe in the living room. But the doors on the wardrobe are squeeky. Will this be a problem for her :senegal: ? I can imagine her imitating the sound later on but at the begining when she arrives could she get stressed by this? I guess she could.
I could remove things I use on a daily basis for a certain period of time if necessary. I use it more like a storage and not for clothes.

And when she is in my bedroom through the party should I keep her in her cage or can I leave the cage door open so that she can get out if she wants to? Her cage is quite big to move it around house.
By the way is it big enough? 54cm x 101cm x 70cm

Thank you

i wouldn't leave her out in your room since you'll be busy with the party and a guest might wander in there to get a peak at the bird.plus you have to make it safe.
