discourage/prevent early rising?

Postby Eurycerus » Thu Jun 28, 2012 7:12 pm

I came across the cutest l little Senegal for adoption. The woman said she is really sweet and has no apparent aversion to men. The only problem is she wakes up at 5:30/6:00 and the woman works until late so she can't tolerate it. She said her roommates don't complain and the noise wouldn't bother a neighbor. I know that birds wake up early however I would prefer to not have to wake up early for the next twenty years. The woman said she tried covering her but it didn't work.

Is it possible to stop a parrot from waking up that early? is this parrot unique? Or is that just how they asp are

as long as they don't know it's morning you can make them sleep when you do.mya :corella: used to stay up late with my boyfriend and when i got her up in the morning she would eat breakfast then fly to my bedroom to go back to sleep.

Mine wake up before me. I put things out for them at night to keep them busy. They are usually eating and playing by the time I stagger in for a cup of coffee.

There were only 2 mornings that I slept really late and Myrtle came in to wake me up.
There was 1 morning I was up early and being quiet while the others slept in. Rambo walked down the hall and yelled "wake up wake up" between their bedrooms.

I think it is more that they were checking on us.

Okay well it sounds like it's doable and not a reason to dismiss this little cutie. I'm meeting her Sunday! I am so excited!

My bird is on a natural light cycle but knows there's no waking me. She just sits calmly, plays with toys or eats while I'm still asleep. A few times if I over sleep (like till 1pm) she'll make a fuss.

Window blinds works wonders. We also cover Tiki's cage with a light sheet at bedtime. She settles down right away. She wakes when I wake; I can sleep in and she will, too. :)

I've only had her for seven days and she has not woken me once, but it may be because she's still settling in. I cover her and as soon as I wake up I say hello and uncover her. Maybe the other lady slept in too long and my little senegal decided to remedy that!

I love your signature btw. <3

hey there,

Hows it going with your senegal :senegal: ?

I hope you are getting your sleep.
There are different things Ive tried with Dusty my :gray: :

1) you could put yr birdy in another room to sleep with dark curtains, that way she wont know when you are awake, but might call out to you if she decides its time to get up.

2) have her sleep in your bedroom with the cage covered.

3) have her sleep in your bedroom with the case slightly open so birdy can see you. This works well for me cos if my :gray: sees me sleeping then he will just sit there quietly untill he sees me move.

For me options 1 and 3 have worked the best.
If I go on weekend trips I always have my :gray: in the same room with me with the cover open so he can see me so when he wakes up in a strange place he knows Im there. This prevents him calling out for me.

Best of luck with your :senegal:
