Early Morning Screamer

Postby Silentraven » Sun Jul 01, 2012 9:18 am

So ive got my senegal moya Who has gone through a lot of changes and now is doing much better due to trick training and such but ive still got one pretty big problem. Problem is that he will scream early in the morning before i have to get up for work around 9, usually he will scream from 6:30 until i get up around 8 or 9. the screaming isnt non stop like a fire alarm or anything, but it seems to be fairly regular intervals enough to keep me awake, and probably the neighbors too... he knows lots of nice quiet vocalizations but will only do this very loud, set of 3 tones scream when no one is around. now im not dumb its clear he wants attention, but im not going to give ti to him, not for screaming. but no matter how much i ignore it, he still persists. so what do i do?

Get up when he does and go jogging.

Rambo yells "are you up? wake up wake up". Until everyone is up.

Hi birds are early creatures.Hes going to do his morning call[your not going to change that].But try the opposite when he continues to to call answer him back[from your bed].Ignoring him is not the answer .Hes calling to his flock[your his flock]This might help. Also leave him uncovered[hes going to do this with or without it [he doesnt want to be in the dark till nine ]Try giving him something to work on before you go to bed to keep him busy in the morning [mine like those treat pinecones]take it out so its something new.Good Luck :D

I agree with Terri.

My birds wake up long before I do. For the Amazons it is their time to do things together before the day gets noisy. This is really the only time they interact on schedule. They eat together and look for what new thing I left for them at "nite nite" after they were asleep. It could be a paper towel tube, a fresh tree branch or a new toy. If all else fails they start working on the old card board boxes.

Birds go with the season. They wake up when morning comes and look for a perch at sundown. Summer has longer days and they take naps in the afternoon.

Your best bet is to get up and enjoy the morning weather before it gets too stinken hot to breath.
It has passed 100 degrees here for the past week.

You need to control their day/night rythm. This is easily done with window blinds (the kind that doesnt let through ANY light), lots of big lights and lamps which are controlled by electrical timers. Total cost to fix a room so that YOU decide how the day/night look is around 100$, and is easily worth it in my opinion.

We use this method and our parrots go to sleep at 10pm, and wake up at 11am. The time between those hours, its VERY dark in the parrot room, to such an extend that I have added a night light for them ^^. They never wake up early, and always want to go to bed at around 9:30pm, starting to prepare and climp to the sleep perch.

Eeasy peasy.

thank you CML, i would really love for this to be an option but in my small apartment there is limited stuff i can do. the place its self is fairly quite, we do get sun in the morning but we have the shades closed and the bird covered as well, but still to no avail he continues his daily routine. i know that people have trained their birds to be quite when they are not around, and i am just looking for how to do that. but if it was an option i would give him a dark room, maybe once i get a house.

Terri suggested answering him. That might work. If a child calls for you sometimes it is just to know where you are. Answering solves his problem. Your bird might just be wanting to know that you did not disappear while he was sleeping.

the problem with answering him is that if i answer him once, he will want me to answer every time. thus leaving me to be woken up every time, and still getting no sleep. i see your reasoning but it would eventually "inadvertently teach" him TO wake me up... see my issue?
