im going to try a sisal one I think and see if he starts to destroy it. He has a small wooden shelf he sleeps on and Id like to pad it or at least put a better surface on it as Im worried hell get sore where he makes contact. Although he appears to have full tendon use and can grip etc, he is actually walking on his heels, and obviously the skin there is not designed to be walked on. He can just about grip a perch but prefers to be at the edge so he can lean on the bars.
Im also wondering about one of those hanging hideaways, the fleecey ones....it would be perfect for him but Im wondering how safe they are? He is quite an unbelievable character and hasnt stopped talking yet. Unphased by our large family of dogs and learning new words within 24 hours! Ive never met such a chilled out bird!

I would watch the condition of the skin on the bad leg in case it gets beat up from being dragged/used incorrectly. Have some aloe vera or vitamin E on hand.

Evidently never clip him of course, and I would avoid anything with dangly parts just because he can't control the leg very well. The soft platforms are a good idea.

Keeping him muscular and fit will go a long way.

I have one of the Happy huts for my green cheek conure but he does not chew at all. I'm not really sure of their suitability for other species to be honest and I have heard of some incidences involving them. It is the only fabric material I allow inside the cage that he can have without supervision. I check it daily though for signs of wear.

Be aware that if you try it they can be seen as a nest by the bird and exaggerate hormonal behaviours. A sisal perch should be ok, go with a thickish one that you can pull taught as like the previous poster said he may struggle with ones that move.
