With traffic here an hour is equal to two hours minimum during the work week or weekend daytime due to traffic and I work till 5 and am home at 6 so I'm sure that they would not stay open to trim Nika's nails :/ I would only go for actual vet work, not something mundane. I definitely do not have four plus hours to burn to go to a vet for nail trimming especially because I go to bed at ten. No good.

They might be open on weekends for stuff like this but I'm not really sure. I'm not a big fan of driving around the Bay Area in general, it's incredibly stressful.

Sorry wasn't ment to sound mean or anything, and nails are doable in other places I'm currently trying to teach mines to just sit on a perch holding their feet up letting me do it. A vet shouldn't be neccessary for the nails as long as you trust the Person doing them, I usually file them a bit even though that's more for the practice of having objects against their nails, so I usually start with the clipper just touching then file and treats em for every nail I'm allowed to do this with. I'm due to get Polarn to the vet soon too for a health check, but I really wanna get him to go into the carrier and shut the door behind him before I go there, I'm at the point where he will walk up to it and sit in the opening and wait for the reward instead of stepping in.

Do wish though I had an avian vet closer in case of emergency. If I take the shortcut using gravel roads though I can cut the travel to about 35 minutes though. A lot shorter but that is me speeding like a madman then. But as Cml said natural perches with bark is great for both beak and nails.

Oh btw the vet visit is not going to get pushed up if he doesn't learn the behavior to go into the carrier, I just though I'd set that as a goal since I've been thinking about it for a while to make it easier to bring him with me to places.

That's fine. I should start training her to let me do that. Nails should be doable I just don't want it to be a scary experience. I need to get a wellness check done too actually.

You must really live out in the country, which I'm sure is beautiful but I couldn't stand the thought of having to drive so far for everything. Too much driving!! :] Nika is a good girl about her carrier. I made it all fun and games. Good thing too because I visit my family a lot. Parrots are so funny. She tries to half heartedly do tricks in the hopes that she can do the least amount of work for a treat. I know she's testing me too! ^_^

Yeah I couldn't stand living where I have to see my neighbours (I actually do see a couple of houses from here though) the benefits though are that there are busses if I'm not in a hurry will take me a couple of hours extra but gives me time to read a book. But lately I haven't felt like reading and has had tons of stuffs todo to easen up the winter, so been driving quite a lot. And I do have a store closer but it's quite small and fairly expensive so it's worth the extra travel. And well he's never really been troublesome getting into the carrier, I've just targeted him or put him there while perched, still would like him to just go in and close the door couse it's cute ;) Gila goes right into it if I put it on the floor and she always seems happy when she gets outside, even though I got the suspicion she goes into it becouse she knows I'll grab her and place her there anyways. But I've had to bring her more times than Polarn since I'm home pretty much all the time only time I really bring them is for the vet. But for next year I wanna bring em all camping and also do some more indoor freflight, well with the flighted ones. So carrier training is gonna be a priority during this fall and winter. Alrdy thought to go to variouse places inside, like playstand, swing, bed, training perch and tree. So shouldnt be impossible teaching him to actually fly to the carrier and walk in rather than just flying to it.

That would be adorable! Well you'll have to let us know if you get that to work. Also I'd love to see a new photo of Gila. She looked so forlorn in the last one. My boyfriend wants to live in a place where we're far from neighbors since he grew up in the country... I'm pretty sure we'll come to a happy medium though.
