Do parrots throw temper tantrums??? Katie was either extremely mad at me or she's bi-polar! After spending two good full days with her, it was time to return to work. When I got home last night, the very first thing I did was greet her, talked to her and gave her a favorite treat. She readily then without hesitation stepped up to my forearm and TOOK A CHUNK of flesh from my arm! Owwwwww!! Then she started fussing and trying to get to my head. Needless to say, I let her calm down without doing further damage to me before I put her back on her playpen. Was she mad at me because I was gone all day? Now,this morning she is acting all huffy and pouty on me. Gotta go to work again. Gee! Is this the homecoming I'm to expect every day??! Think I need a bird whisperer !!

My Senegal screams a ton on Mondays when I'm gone because over the weekend she gets used to me and others being around. It's sad :/

She is always happy to see me when I get back and is ready to come out so I'm sure yours will come around eventually and be friendly.

AWWWWW! I am SO in love! So, this is what it feels like to be owned heart 'n soul by a parrot! Never having a large parrot before, I had no idea what I was getting into or what awaited me! Katie has now been with me for 4 weeks and has made such tremendous strides. She's really an awesome baby with a unlimited personality. Who knew she would love scrambled eggs and oatmeal? Or actually want to follow me around the house? I know this is not new to you guys but for her and me, it is a delightful discovery I think for both of us! The reason for this prattle is to tell a funny on her...today I'm cleaning out all the cages and she's constantly making her sounds, walking around everywhere and generally getting in the way. Now she's on top of her playpen and I bend over to pick something up she has thrown on the floor and she squawks, bites me on the butt and plainly and very loudly says "Praise the Lord!"! I have never laughed so hard and there she is looking so pleased with herself, cackling almost and doing her little Stevie Wonder head rolls! Yep. It's all over and I'm totally smitten :-)

OH MY! Katie had brown rice and sweet potatoes for lunch, eating it from a cup while she sat on my shoulder. Yummy stuff, she and I both had a bowl. Now she doesn't want to get off my shoulder and is regurgitating and wiping it on my cheek and pulling my hair. Uhmmm, sweet and glad she is getting attached to me so quickly but really! Is this a good thing or should I discourage it? She's being SO sweet today!

No eating on your shoulder. Not only do you get food wiped on your face and in your hair but you will also get crumbs down your blouse.

I try to give Myrte and Rambo their own dishes while I am eating but sometimes they want a noodle or oatmeal out of my bowl. But never while sitting on my shoulder.

He can sit on your lap or put a place on the table for him. If you eat in the living room put a small dish beside you on the couch.

OH! My bad. She was wanting to eat from my bowl so I just held hers while she ate. I understand durnit. I was just so tickled she's bonding to me more than I ever expected but yeah it is a bit messy lol! She keeps coming out with new phrases like "bye bye bye" and "hello sweet girl" and lots of HaHaHA's. Everyday is something new for us! Who knows what all is in that 25 year old head!! I'm loving it big time!

I feed Rambo and Myrtle when they beg but not on my shoulder. One morning I watched my mother eating oatmeal. Myrtle took a bit from the spoon then Mom finished the spoon. It is a good thing that she is a clean bird.

My Katie is such a doll baby! I can't believe the bond that she has formed for me in such a short time. She's like my shadow and unbelievably ecstatic when I come home from work. Okay! That's all good stuff, right? Then please tell me (without loosing ground and having her feel rejected or alone like she has been in the past) how to dial her back a notch! No more feeding on the shoulder. Got it. However, it can be hours after she has eaten or a short while, doesn't matter. When she gets anywhere near my face (like riding around on my shoulder, which she practically begs to do) she will attempt to push against my lips and plant her beak in my mouth! I'm sure that;s not in the guide book for healthy humans OR birds! And yes, there is the head whipping and neck bobs along with the regurgitating. I love this little girl but.......how do I handle this without "hurting her feelings", considering her background? Don't laugh! You know what I mean. I know there must be rules and guidelines but I honestly feel she is starved for love and attention and I don't want to lose her trust. Any suggestions on this sticky situation?
