Sleeping in his water bowl...?

My cockatiel seems to be sleeping in his water bowl...I give him baths often and he enjoys it and I know when to stop so I'm not sure why he sleeps there... :shock:

In it or on the edge of it?

Harlie used to sleep on the edge of it with her front toes dipping into the water,we have a dispenser with a shallow tray rather than a bowl. It really worried me to the point where I was considering taking her water out at night as I was worried about her getting joint problems from being damp all the time. Luckily she stopped doing it reguarly and it is just occasional now.

If your 'tiel is sleeping in the bowl get a smaller container. If he is sleeping on the edge don't fill it so full so the toes stay dry or if the bowl is too shallow to control depth consider a water bottle instead, personally I don't like the bottles but it might be worth a go.

There are bird waterers that attach to the side of the cage. It is like a water bottle but has a big enough bowl area for them to get their beaks in and get a good drink. He might have decided that the shape of that bowl is confortable. Leave it empty and give him another bowl for bathing.

Yes he seems to be sleeping on the edge of it... i'll take it out now at night

The problem is that when he is sleeping on the edge of it he does his 'business' in it at the same time

Bluergh, keeping birds water clean is a pain lol. Last night Ollie ripped up a box and dragged it all the way up his cage to give it a bath...

You could try moving the didsh before taking it out at night. Sorry for not making it clear in the other post, I think it should be an absolute last resort just in case they do want a drink at night..

I moved the dish to a different place when I cleaned his cage, now he doesn't sleep or do his 'business' in it too
