Blue-eyed Cockatoo fears water!

Postby JacobBird » Tue Aug 21, 2012 6:54 pm

Hey! My Blue-eyed Cockatoo gets very scared and tends to move out when I take him a bath. I've tried just spraying him from the water host and just simply light spraying him using a sprayer but he just don't like it. Any tips on what should I do?

Run the hoover and see if that gets him in the mood for a shower. Mine always seem to start dipping their heads in their water dispensers after I've hoovered.

When I run the hoover he tend to sigh and move away from it /: when I spray him with the spray bottle, he opens his mouth, sighs, slap his wings and again move away. Should I introduce him to water? But he is comfortable drinking from his bowl and also from my hand. O.o

Oki, maybe not the hoover then lol.

Have you tried letting him watch you have a shower?
Offering a shallow dish of fresh water?
Could also try spraying him once and giving him a treat before he moves away then repeating.

I think you said on another thread you hadn't had him too long, don't push him too hard to have a bath. its sensless to potentially ruin the trust you've built up, powder birds dont tend to bathe that often anyway and it won't hurt him at all not to have one for a while, the powder coating on the feathers enable dirt to slide off the feathers.

For now I would concentrate on practicing step ups and target training and enjoying your new bird.
