I want to buy a Jenday Conure (or two...)

Postby reallove » Fri Aug 31, 2012 11:59 am

Hello bird lovers!
I started to fall in love with Jenday Conures after seeing a couple at a bird show last month.
I did some research and that seems the right bird for me: friendly and affectionate.
My concerns are: I work 8 hours a day, will the bird feel lonely this time at home? Will it make more sense to buy two so they keep company to each other?
Thank you!

I think so, or you can get one later. I believe they deserve a buddy =). Train with them separately and you can still have a bond with both of them!

i would start with one. i've heard from peole who got 2 at once and it makes bonding and training more difficult, not impossible though.plus if you're going to get a baby you'll want to get past the hormonal stage before introducing a new bird alot of birds end up in rescues at that age because they turn from a sweet baby to a hormonal teenager and i can't imagine going through this with 2 at the same time.all mine were adopted so the only one i've experianced this with is my :gcc: and it was a nightmare.

Consider a rescue. There are so many great birds out there that need rescuing and a permanent new home. This is a long term commitment you are considering, 30-60+ years. You can even foster parrot (parent) a bird or two to see what life with a parrot companion would be like and how different each species can be. Some organizations even provide foster parents with a cage, toys, and food. With a rescue you can take your time and get to know the bird you are considering before adopting. You would be surprised at the number of beautiful birds are waiting adoption.

San Diego, Alaska and Pittsburgh areas check out http://www.peac.org

I believe most large metropolitan areas would have some kind of parrot rescue services.

And yeah most metro areas have parrot rescues. It's worth it.

Thank you all for the replies.
I didn't know you could adopt a bird from a rescue center.
I'll definitely have a look there first!

Jenday conures are the most perfect birds ever in my very bias opinion! In the Jenday v.s. Sun debate, I'm Jenday all the way. Just be prepared for a little noise, though mine did not scream.

I never had two conures, though I do have a friend that keeps a Nanday and a Sun together, they get along perfectly and still are bonded with her. They at first had separate cages, but the cages are open all the time, and while they play in both they both now sleep in a hidey-hut in the Sun's cage. It's adorable. :)
