I'm not really sure. I adopted him in May. He's 6 years old and from what I can tell he has had a very rough life. He's terrified of men but he has come round to me.
He doesn't really play with his toys. I bought him a whole lot of toys and they're still in really good shape months later. He has a play stand but he doesn't like it. He'd rather be in his cage. If I put him on the stand he'll fly over and go in his cage.
Is it possible he just never actually learned how to be a parrot? He spent 6 years living in a ferret cage without even any perches. Just hanging out on the floor or hanging off the bars and obviously had no toys. He has been to the vet and he is in tip top shape health wise. He has a good healthy appetite and I got him onto pellets & fresh foods off his seed.
He almost never makes any noise too. That may be a senegal trait? I don't know. I've never had a senegal before. The noise he does make is loud of course but it's so rare.
I love him the way he is but I hope he's happy! He doesn't pluck and he doesn't sleep all day. he just sits there on a perch but he is responsive when I talk to him and sing to him. Turns his head and such.
