That's awful, I am so sorry you have to go through this!
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.

I went to the house where Captain was thought to be at, I asked the woman who answered if they'd found a bird, and she said that it was a small yellow bird. And that someone had claimed it, I showed her a picture of Captain and she said it wasn't him, my mum was with me and asked how big the bird was. The woman said she wasn't sure, but she said it was the size of the picture of Captain I showed her. I think she thought that Captain was small.
I listened out to see if I could hear him but I heard nothing. I'm wondering if that man will phone me like he said he would. I'll have to wait and see. Another dissapointment.
I don't really believe her, but I'll see if the man who called me anonymously will call again tonight. He said he would to see how it goes. I also called around all the local vets and asked if any Cockatiels had been brought in to have their leg rings removed but they all said no. One asked for my number and said they'd call me if they had any Cockatiels brought in.
The weather hasn't been helping either, my posters keep getting ripped off no matter how much selotape I plaster on them. It's frustrating.

I am so sorry. That is so frustrating and disappointing. Please keep trying, don't give up. Let us know any news. I'm crossing my fingers... you and Captain are in my thoughts.

I got a call today from the woman I went to see the other day, she told me she had lied about having Captain. She said that she felt guilty for lying to me, but she and her husband had grown attached to him, and they'd had him for 7 weeks.
When they found him he was green and weak, they'd found him on the Sunday and I'd lost him on the Friday. They had put up a poster for him, but it was in their local shop. He hadn't flown super far away, but it was further than I thought he would have. But they bought a cage and looked after him.
She had a suprise when I showed up on her doorstep, and was on her way to a friends funeral.
We were there for about half an hour as they both apolegized and told me about Captain. They'd called him Charlie, and he likes toast and quavers. As well as having some tea in the morning. He does look like he's gained some weight, especially around his cheeks.
His leg ring is still on him, so whoever phoned me about him muct have gotten that detail wrong.
He's home now and preening himself on my shoulder, but I think it'll take a while for him to remember me. He's slightly hesitant about letting me touch him, but I think he's coming around.
I'm just so happy to have him home, and that he's not dead or was found by someone who would mistreat him.
I wanted to thank everyone for all the support over the month that he's been missing, and thanks for telling me not to give up! Now I'm going to try and get him to remember me again.

Thanks everyone ^^ He seems to be settling, but I think it'll be a while before he gets used to me again.
And they are quite horrible. I'm glad they took care of him, but they only put one poster up in their local shop, I didn't expect him to have flown so far. When they found him they said he was all green and very weak. I'm glad he was well taken care of, and they did apologize to me and they also refused the reward money. They wouldn't even let me reimburse them for the cage. That may have just been because they felt quilty though.
They also fed him Quavers and toast, so he's gotten a bit fatter :/ I doubt either of those things are good for him, they fed him toast in the mornings. Oh and his leg ring is still on him, so whoever called me was wrong on that part but right about everything else.
Does he look fatter? Or is it just me?

If you found a skinny little bird you would think twice about returning him. Your visit made them know how much you loved him. You know they got attached to him too. It took a big person to come clean about a lie.
