Baby lorikeet help ( important)

Postby Pricey_boy » Fri Nov 09, 2012 7:23 pm

A couple of days ago I adopted a very young lorikeet who had been attacked by crows and taken to a vet and they wanted to put him down his tail feathers have been pulled out and two of his front toes are crossed will it heal up

he doesn't know how to bite food and he isn't interested in nectar powder or any rearing formula and I don't think he's getting enough to eat I'm not sure of his exact age but his beak is still black and he's not a good flyer or climber

need help with all of this

I have a yellow streaked lory. All I know is that their main diet is that nectar is vital to their well being they have to have it.Their beaks will never be able to crush seed or anything like it.Sounds like your going to have to hand feed then wean it on to the powder nectar.Do you know how ?

Try with the hand feeding formula putting it in a syringe. The temp.cant be hot [very important].Follow the instructions. What I do is wrap a paper towel around their neck [like a bib] I hold the towel with my left hand to steady the bird. Then with my right hand I dribble the formula With the syringe in the right side of the beak. The bird will refuse the formula when full.Go slow you can choke the bird .Look up hand feeding and read about things that can hurt the bird so you have a heads up.You have to get food in your bird .Good Luck.
