If I'm remembering correctly, at six months (when we brought her home) Tiki did not yet hold her food. I would say it was at about seven or eight months of age. Now, she holds her food all the time; she is now ten months old. She is still a baby like your little bird, and likes to be handfed. She loves to be babied.

This was a bit of a problem for Mags for a while. I brought her home at 7 months. She didn't hold food at all, so anytime I tried to give her veggies or fruits, she would take it out of the dish, get one bite and drop it.
The food went fast.
She quickly started to figure it all out, so i'd say about 8 months.

Ollie (GCC) always did it from bringing him home at 7-8 weeks old.
George (peach fronted conure) always did it too but we didn't get him until a later age, we guess he was about 8-10 months old when he joined our flock.
Harlie (cockatiel)started holding her food at about 5-6 years of age!
None of the other cockatiels, budgie or rosella ever held their food.

Ringo ( GCC ) did it from about the same time as marie's Ollie (7 weeks or so )

Toby ( Bourke parakeet) doesnt hold anything with his feet but runs like lightning - sometimes I think he runs faster than he flies (and he flies fast! ) :D

Wow, I had no idea some parrots didn't hold food until much later! We got our Alexandrine just over a week ago now. He's about 14 weeks and he's been holding food since the second we got him (though he does sometimes drop it and look down like "What just happened?").

We brought Kura ( :senegal: ) home when he was about 6 months and at first he was very clumsy with food - we used to hold some treats for him, but he had normal bolws in his cage, so he had to manage it by himself. At first he was dropping almost everything and then he realized that he needs to help himself in some way, so he started using his foot for this and after a few days he mastered holding food with it.
I suppose he was less than 7 months then :)

He still sometimes drops food when he gets distracted or he simply doesn't like it, but when everything is fine, he holds it really well :)
