Promiscuous Senegal

Postby GreenWing » Sat Dec 01, 2012 7:09 pm

My Tiki is cheating on me, waaaah!

Okay, so I've been discouraging her clubbing-esque dance moves, and she's now doing it on my husband's shoulder! I was her "mate" and now I'm not. She nuzzles him in front of me and talks up a storm, all while looking at me.

Is my bird fickle or what?

Ollie does this too, switches loyalites loads. I'm in favour again now. Prior to that it was about 45/55, before that it was my bf, before that was me......
When he switches though for the first few weeks he always looks towards he previous love as if to say "are you jealous that I left you for another yet?"

Okay, I need help. Tiki is DEFINITELY being promiscuous in her behavior. She is now doing a mating dance for my husband. I thought Sennies were once person birds? Tiki wants to mate with her whole flock

Does anyone have advice on how to really make this stop? Her hormonal behavior was better for a while but now she's REALLY acting up again, the horny little devil.

Now that's one horny bird! Wait till she starts biting for not getting what she wants. You gotta look into food management as a primary solution. Also avoid starting the behavior and avoid encouraging it.

Yeah, about that, a new thing is that when I set food on her cage for her she not only pounces on it but tries to nip me, too. Which is weird because her aggression has been better overall, but not when it comes to giving her food ON and IN her cage...

By food management, you mean avoiding warm mashed foods and feeding more veggies?

One trigger of her mating dance is biting my nails. I will prevent this from now on.

I think she should spend some more time in her cage, too. She is out of her cage a lot. Problem is she's been squawking loud when I put her in her cage, not screaming but squawks a lot.

No, I mean stop feeding the bird so damn much! She gets enough food for two so she wants to seal the deal and have it hatch. You gotta food manage so that you are never feeding more than for one, otherwise you get this sort of hormonal behavior. And stop chewing your nails, I think she's trying to tell you something.

Very helpful, thanks Michael

Lol, I don't bite my nails, she bites them, and when she nibbles them she goes off. Don't know why.

Yes I probably do spoil her with treats, but how much food is too much? She's not fat at 109 grams... I usually give her a little granola in the morning and some fresh veggies/fruit/carbs or egg for dinner... that is, in addition to her pellet mix which is in her cage in a bowl.

We were told to keep the room warm for our feathered beast, so it's at 69 degrees... is that too warm?

Nah, temp is fine. 60-90 degrees is all fine as long as it is consistent. Do you leave food in the cage all day long?
