Window Advice

Postby terri » Fri Dec 14, 2012 9:30 pm

Lately my Hawkhead Charlotte when shes out flies on top of Harlows cage [you can tell she just wants to look out the window]I feel bad even though theres windows in the room she cant see out of one well.I was thinking of switching her with my caiques cage [like one week back and forth]Ive heard different things ,like birds love change and change could upset them .Anybodys thoughts on this would be great :D

everyone of my birds exept for rocky our weiro has changed cages several times and also different locations in the house and ive had no problems.

i finally got bandit to wear his harness and ive taken him out twice ive uploaded pics.bandit also climbs to the top of his cage and stares out the window and because i live in a unit complex he watches our neighbours go past he could sit in front of it all day

Honestly, I think it depends on the birds- how confident they are, how used to "change" in their lives, how long they have been living in the same spots they are in now etc. Personally I think that change is a good thing for birds but if they have been stuck in a routine/everything stayed the same for a long time then it needs to be introduced slowly.
Its harder with a change of cage positions, you either do it or you dont and then change it back if it doesn't work by which point the bird may already be stressed by it, for that reason I would go by your birds personalities. I imagine the caiques will be fine, they are generally quite bold birds like the majority of conures. I have no idea on the hawkhead parrots typical personality but I'm sure you will instinctively know if its a bad idea.

I would switch cages to see how it affects Charlotte. From what I remember being told by an avian vet, changing location is a good thing. Although, I tend to keep Tiki's cage in our study; a window is right next to her cage that she likes to peer out of. Through the window, they get some natural light on their wings, therefore getting their vitamin D in the process.
