Alexandrine Loves Bell?

Hi everyone,

Well, our Alexandrine is very interesting! We totally got rid of his loud chirp, but now there are some other odd things going on. He's only 4 months old, but he seems to be in love with the bell that he has in his cage. He ignored it for about a week but now he makes noises and regurgitation motions for it. He also bit me this morning as I was asking him to step up from a perch near his bell. Do you think maybe he's territorial about it?

What do you think? Do you think we should take the bell out of his cage for a little while?

Its a good idea to rotate all toys on a regular basis. Now some birds prefer a certain type of toy so I'm not saying if the bell is preferred it should go without a bell for a few weeks but make it a different size, shape, add other toys to it to make it different etc (as long as its still safe for the bird). I think your birds far too young to be seeing the bell as its actual mate but swapping stuff about alot will help prevent that and the possessive streak that over attatchment can bring. Its definitely alot easier to prevent stuff than cure them.

All birds get terrotorial over toys but if he's very terrotorial don't play with it in front of him my bird Lloyd will never ever bite me unless I play with his bells or his jingly balls so I've made a majority of his toys bell because there his favourite

I think that your Alexandrine has chosen the bell toy as a mate. I'm not sure what to do about it, but keep asking some more experienced parrot owners on how to deal with this.

He's very beautiful! And he is too young to be displaying mating behaviours I would think. He's clearly really into it and hasn't learned to share his toys yet. Rotating toys is a good idea for a number of reasons.

hey i saw it, i understood what actually happening. your pet not liking them. if he/she s moving around and making slow movements, making its eye ball small, vomiting (some times due to dry food inside mouth- its natural not big deal) means not at all wanted to be in its cage. mine too is alexandrine and a pet from last 12 years. these birds don't play with things normally(don't no exactly). as they are most destructive. they like some wood materials only to bite and eat. it is baby only, but if it becomes 4 or 5 years it starts to bite and destroy everything. so maintain some strong branches (wood) to play in their cage, when they enter 2 or 3 years. u can trust me 100%. i too went from same case.
and i never prefer a cage not becaz she can't fly (but it jumps), as they like to play and stay outside of the cage. they always prefers to be free just like us. if u keep it inside room, more better. but be aware of surroundings, and fan. make sure she can able to see outside the window, becaz they love more space and buzy. and i don't know, its he or she??????? till one year.
