Cast iron is a pain to clean but get a pot scraper, it makes things soooo much easier.

Complain complain.... it's just practice for scraping bird cages and all the other sorts. Parrot owners should be used to it by now!

I use stainless steel pans and I like them a lot, but as I am a vegetarian and don't eat meat (or eggs) I can't really speak as to how they perform in that regard.

Most places don't sell teflon anymore, as it's been replaced by hard anodized. I don't think hard anodized gives off any odors or is toxic.

Maybe in California but here in Florida Teflon/PTFE non-stick pans still line the shelves. Recently I needed a muffin pan and I went to several stores (two different grocery store chains, Target, Walmart, and Bed, Bath & Beyond) and all they had were Teflon-coated ones.

I finally found one without a PTFE coating at a thrift store.
