Paper or Plastic?

Postby Michael » Sat Mar 16, 2013 12:23 pm

Let's see if our parrots have a favorite material in common. What is your parrot's favorite material to chew? Mention the species/size as well as the parts. If you have multiple parrots, vote either collectively or for one of your birds.

As for mine:

Kili, Senegal Parrot - Prefers soft wood, popsicle sticks, and easy to chew things
Truman, Cape Parrot - Prefers hard woods, plastic, metal, and things that are difficult to break

The funny thing is that Truman will often pass up entirely on soft woods, paper, cloths, and other easy things like that.

Both of my Rosellas go crasy for a piece of paper... cheap huh :D Just have to pick up a stack of free newspapers on my way home and I'm done.

Tiki loves leather strips, plastic beads, wood to gnaw, cloth and paper to tear... she tries to get zippers and buttons; she likes to nibble flesh as well

Where's the "all of the above" option? :D

Wiki, Budgie - most often chews paper, but gets obsessed with balsa to the point of having to remove the wood at bedtime.

Ringo, GCC, likes cloth, yarn, and rope more than anything else. his favorite things to nibble right now are towels. (hopefully that will make towel training easier)

Toby, Bourke, also likes cloth (that's why I cast my vote as "cloth" ) but he also likes to nibble on paper and the corners of books.

Toby - Bourke Parakeet

My two don't really chew.

Ollie will chew on the odd bit of paper or tissue occassionally, even rarer he will chew very soft woods.
Harlie isn't bothered at all but will occasionally bite her perch, I wouldn't class it as chewing though, it is literally a random bite.
